FAQs / Frequently Asked Questions

The purpose of this FAQ section is to provide general information about the biological mitigation and monitoring program. Questions of a technical nature will not be addressed.

Q:
What are the goals of the biological mitigation efforts?
 A:

The overriding goal is to ensure implementation of mitigation measures and requirements that have been specified in permits to construct and the Final Environmental Impact Statement. Successful implementation of the mitigation measures will minimize impacts to special status species and their habitat. Specifically, the biological mitigation team is tasked with conducting biological observations during construction activities and participating in the development of off-site mitigation opportunities.

Q:
How long will the monitoring take place?
 A:

Biological monitoring will take place throughout construction of the new East Span.

Q:
When and where does the monitoring take place?
 A:

The schedule for monitoring activities is dependent on several variables: the schedule and type of construction activities that will be conducted, time of year, and what species or parameter will be included in the monitoring. The majority of the monitoring will occur in the vicinity of the construction area.

Q:
What is the report distribution/publishing schedule?
 A:

Reports are published according to the schedules outlined in the individual monitoring protocols or specified in regulatory permits. Frequency of reporting depends on the type of report and the topic.

Q:
Can/How do I obtain hard copies of the reports?
 A:

Caltrans is not producing hard copies of reports. All reports will be available electronically on this website. If you desire a hard copy, we suggest printing a copy from the electronic file.

Q:
Where can I go if my question was not answered in the FAQs?
